I do frequent cafes. Not because I have money, but I need a good place and great companions when I think, so cafe is great. Here in Taipei, some cafes don’t limit the buyers for staying, so I can sit as long as 6 hours and let my mind flies.
Raras, one of my friend, invited me (and some others) to got to R9 cafe for brunch. I’ve heard of the cafe and passed over it several times, but never get the chance to try it. So today we went there. The cafe is located near the R9 exit of MRT Zhongshan station (one station after Taipei Main Station, heads up to Danshui).
I do think the place is in a perfect corner. Sunshine falls directly into the store, so it doesn’t need too much lighting in daytime. It is not so big, but the store has some nice comfy couches.
We sat down near the window and started to browse the menu. I came for the honey toast and coffee so I ordered strawberry honey toast and latte with orange. The others ordered honey toast too and ‘real meal’: beef stew, spaghetti, and seafood rice.
Coffee and real meals came first. I like the orange flavor in my latte, but the espresso was not tasteful enough. They give marshmallow for side dishes. Raras ordered pomello tea which came in a very nice pot. I didn’t try it because it is on ice and I tried to limit my cold beverage intake these days.
To my surprise, the ‘real meals’ were all good. I seldom find cafe which also serves good meals. The beef stew was tender and spicy, and the spaghetti were also surprisingly delicious! The food were all directly cooked, so they came hot.
After several minutes, come the honey toast. I did not expect much at first, but just by seeing the beauty of all the decorations, I got hungry. I cut the bread cover, and it was not as hard as any honey toast I’ve tried before. Good start. Then I picked one honey toast from inside, to find that it was still warm. Nice, real nice. And what I like the most is the sweetness level. Sometimes I find honey toast is soooo sweet, it gives me headache. But I fall in love with R9 honey toast in an instant! Perfect sweetness.
The prices are okay, the honey toast costs TWD 250, while my coffee is TWD 120. Meals, around TWD 180 – 220. They also have macarons, TWD 350. No time limit (as we weren’t told there is any).
I recommend this cafe for you :)

When sweetness gave u dizzy, it gave me cozy :D. However, in my opinion from comparing honey toast at some cafes in Taipei, I can say that R9′s toast inside is too hard, while Dazzling cafe show u the perfect way to cut n eat ,Chin2 Cafe has too much sweet cream as topping, Bingo-C is too small in portion :P but I love the lychee, and L’Air Rouge has a good taste but not so special. Haha, Iam still not satisfied, so now hardly searchin honey toast at Surabaya ^^
